Love.
It’s valentine's day. That means expensive chocolates will be eaten, flowers will be given, and sappy poems will be written. So here is one I wrote…
Love.
I’ve been told love is patient,
I’ve been told love is kind,
I’ve been told all about love,
And how it is defined,
I’ve been told love does not envy,
I’ve been told love does not boast,
I’ve been told love protects,
That love always hopes,
But it’s one thing to be told,
And another thing to see,
So when it comes to love,
I can say confidently,
Love is when my mom,
Kissed my hands goodnight,
Love is when my dad,
Drove me to school at dawn's light,
Love is when my brother,
Took me frog hunting with a net,
Love is when my sister,
Stayed up with me past sunset,
Love is not as complicated,
As people make it out to be,
Love always trusts,
It’t not angered easily,
But what I think is important,
Is that love is sacrifice,
It’s something freely given,
Sold at no price,
But the love of a sibling,
A parent or friend,
Can never outweigh the love,
That came heaven sent,
For when we are all wrong,
Dirty in our sin,
It was Jesus who came first,
To break the chains we’re all in,
Love is celebrated and cheered,
We give it it’s own day,
So while you eat your chocolate,
And whenever you might stray,
Remember God is patient,
He is so very kind,
He does not boast nor does he envy,
That’s how He is defined,
By who He is,
Not by what He’s done,
So on this Valentine’s day,
Don’t forget…God is Love.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
“4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
