Love Over Abs

It is now officially 2024. That means we will all accidentally write the wrong year, and have to turn a 23 into a 24 as creatively as possible. It means that gyms are packed with new members that are set on getting those fresh to death abs. It means people are smoking less cigarettes, eating less chocolate. People are consuming less alcohol and drinking more water. These are all very common New Year’s resolutions. And that’s great! All of these goals are awesome goals to have!

If your goals are similar to these, or fall in the same categories, that is amazing, and I wish you the best of luck on accomplishing these. But I have a question for you. Have you ever set a goal with someone else in mind? And no, I don’t mean the “I want to get fit so he/she will like me better” kind of resolution. I mean the “I want to go to more of my kids sporting events” or the “I want to call my parents more often” kind of resolution.

I think this kind of resolution can be overlooked, but putting love over abs can make your life and the lives around you so much richer. So as we move into a new year, I encourage you to set one of these goals with someone else in mind. Now that I’ve said this I know exactly what you’re thinking: “You’re gonna tell us to do this and then you’re just gonna go live your life, what exactly is this special goal of yours?” and if that is what you’re wondering, I’ll tell you exactly what my resolution is.

This year, I want to stay in better touch with my siblings. I am truly blessed to have a great relationship with my brother and my sister. But we’re all grown up now: they’re married, we’re all working, living in different states. I want to be intentional with them and the relationship I have with them.

Now it’s your turn. How are you going to better love the people around you?

To 2024 :)
